The Bachelor of Business degree has been designed to enable students to succeed in their chosen business profession. The course structure allows students to choose one or two major areas of study from accounting, business law, economics, finance, hospitality management, management, management of information technology,marketing, sport management and tourism . A feature of the course is the Business Edge units: a set of integrated general and professional skills units designed to link academic and professional pathways for educational development. The Faculty offers a supportive environment with expert staff who are committed to quality teaching and research.
The Supplementary program offers students a choice of units to complete their degree. Options available include a Second Major program, a Supporting Major (from another Faculty), a Minor program, or a selection of Elective units from those offered within the Bachelor of Business award or (with approval) from other awards of the Faculty of Business and Law or (with approval) from outside the Faculty.

* Core units, Business Edge units and most Majors may be completed online.
Course structure
The Bachelor of Business degree requires a minimum of 360 credit points and normally requires three years of full-time study or the part-time equivalent.
The degree has the following main components:
After the first semester of full-time study, students choose a Major, Double Major or Supplementary program they wish to follow.
In Year One students must complete 75 credit points (5 units) from the following Bachelor of Business core units:
- ACC1100 Accounting I
- ECF1110 Economics I
- ECF1120 Finance I
- LAW1100 Legal Framework I
- MAN1100 Management I
- MIS1600 e-Business Systems
- MKT1600 Marketing Principles and Practices
Students must complete the following 60 credit points (4 units) of Business Edge units:
- BES1100 Foundations of Business Knowledge
- BES1200 Business Knowledge Development
- BES2100 Foundations of Business Leadership
- BES3100 Business Career Development
Major Program in a specialised area
Major programs consist of 120 credit points of study (including a core unit of 15 credit points). All units listed for the Major must be completed to satisfy the requirements for that Major.
Currently, the following Majors are available:
- Accounting: This Major has been designed for students seeking careers as professional accountants or in any financial area of business. The major combines sound accounting principles with practical business applications.
- Business Law: This Major supports students' employability in careers such as accounting, management and marketing.
- Economics: This Major is designed for students intending to pursue a career as business economists or economic consultants in a wide range of corporate management roles.
- Finance: This Major has been designed for students who propose to follow a career in finance. Graduates in finance are to be found in stockbroking, investment management, financial advisory roles and the finance division of all types and sizes of companies.
- Hospitality Management: This Major is designed to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to function as business professionals and industry leaders in contempory organisations.
- Human Resource Management: This Major provides the theoretical and practical foundations for a human resource management practitioner.
- Industrial Relations: This Major is designed for students who wish to acquire specialist skills for a career in industrial relations or human resource management in the public or private sphere or in trade unions. This is only available in conjunction with a Major in Human Resource Management.
- International Business: This Major has been designed for students intending to pursue a business career with an international focus.
- Management: This Major has been designed to prepare students for a future in management and focuses on understanding people at work and how organisations operate.
- Management of Information Technology: The effective use of IT is increasingly critical to business; this major will address the development and management of technology in today's fast changing business landscape.
- Marketing: This Major has been designed to provide appropriate education for students seeking a wide range of positions in the marketing, sales and marketing communications sector.
- Sport Management: This Major is designed to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to function as business professionals and industry leaders in contemporary sport agencies.
- Tourism Management: This Major is designed to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to function as business professionals and industry leaders in contemporary tourism or travel organisations.
The Supplementary program offers students a choice of units to complete their degree. The Supplementary Program comprises minimum of 120 credit points of study.
Options available include:
- (i) A Second Major
A second major may be selected from the Bachelor of Business majors listed above, or from another Faculty. The general requirements are:
Recommended Majors offered by Faculties other than the Faculty of Business and Law include:
- Computer Science
- Languages (French, Japanese)
- Mass Communication
- Mathematics
- Politics and Government
- Public Relations
- Sports Science
NOTE: In courses where unit codes are paired at second and third year level, a student who completes the unit at second year level may not do the same unit at third year level.
- (ii) A Minor program plus an Elective
Minors available from the Faculty of Business and Law include:

- Human Resource Management
- International Business
- Management
- Management of Information Technology
- Marketing
- Marketing Management
- Professional Accounting
- Professional Finance
Students may opt to study a minor from another faculty.
Elective units are to be selected from units offered within the Bachelor of Business award or (with approval) from other awards of the Faculty of Business and Law or (with approval) from outside the Faculty can be taken.
- (iii) An Elective program
In addition to Core units, Business Edge units and the major area of study, students may select 8 Elective units from within the Faculty or, from outside the Faculty.
Students who wish to meet the academic requirements for membership of the various professional bodies may select the units specified by the relevant body.
NOTE: All Bachelor of Business students must complete a minimum of 60 credit points at third year level and no more than 180 credit points at first year level.
