The Bachelor of Tourism Management aims to provide a strong background in all aspects of Tourism Management. It has been designed for individuals who recognise the need to develop themselves for successful leadership in contemporary tourism or travel organisations.

Tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. One critical factor in sustaining growth in this sector is a competent workforce.

The Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management is also available to study.

Course structure

The Bachelor of Tourism Management requires a minimum of 360 credit points and normally requires three years of full-time study or the part-time equivalent.

The degree has the following main components:
(i) a core program of fourteen units worth 15 credit points each totalling 210 credit points
(ii) a supplementary program of ten units worth 15 credit points totalling150 credit points consisting of:

  • a 10 unit supporting major; or
  • an 8 unit supporting major and 2 electives; or
  • a 6 unit minor and 4 electives; or
  • a 4 unit minor and 6 electives; or
  • two 4 unit minors and 2 electives; or
  • 10 electives

NOTE: All Bachelor of Tourism Management students must complete a minimum of 75 credit points at third year level and no more than 150 credit points at first year level.

The core program is the fourteen units worth 15 credit points totalling 210 credit points listed below:

Plus five units selected from the following, including at least four level III units:

Professional associations

The Bachelor of Tourism Management is accredited by the Institute of Hospitality, a professional management association for managers in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industries. This entitles graduates to apply to the Institute for associate membership.
