China-Australia Business Research Centre (CABRC)
The Centre is committed to:
- conducing business research relating to mainland China;
- providing training and consultancy services to both Australian and Chinese businesses; and
- fostering business relationships between Australia and China.
The China-Australia Business Research Centre is a research centre located within the School of Management, Faculty of Business and Law at Edith Cowan University, Australia.
CABRC areas of research focus include:
- Business environment in China and development trends
- International business including exporting and outsourcing
- Strategic management of direct foreign investment in China
- Human resources management in the Chinese market.
In addition to conducting research and acting as consultants to both Australian and Chinese governments and firms, we provide training for government and business personnel who are planning to, or who are currently involved in doing business with China.
Our four primary research directions currently include:
- Innovation
- Sustainability
- Strategic management
- International business
We will broaden our research into other business areas in the near future.
CABRC has successfully undertaken a number of important research projects including:
- Strategic management of Chinese investment in the Australian resources sector
- Protecting intellectual properties rights in the Chinese market
- A comparative study of strategic decision-making processes between Australian and Chinese small medium enterprise managers
- A case study of strategic management in Chinese state-owned enterprises
- An examination of the impact of strategic management and company performance in the Chinese hotel industry: A multiple perspective approach
- The impact of strategic management of foreign direct investment (FDI) on company performance: An examination of Australian service organisations (ASO) in China
- Investigating changes occurring in the characteristics of organisational guanxi at a Hotel in south-west China
Staff
CABRC includes staff members from Edith Cowan University who have teaching, research and consultancy expertise relating to China and Asia. Leading staff members include;
Professor Alan Brown (Human Resources Management), Professor Malcolm Smith (Accounting), Dr Xueli Huang (Marketing, Strategic Management), Associate Professor Gary Chittick (International Business), Dr Stephen Grainger (International Business), Associate Professor Maryam Omari (Human Resources Management), and Mr Michael Crowley (Law).
